Benares is a smoke-free restaurant

Atul publicly backs The Big Food Fight!

Channel Four's explosive Big Food Fight has pulled no punches at the start of 2008. Atul Kochhar, chef patron has publicly backed the infamous trio Gordon, Jamie and Hugh in the fight against intensively farmed chickens, claiming Benares has and will always use free range chickens.

A committed free-range enthusiast, Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall investigated intensive chicken farming on the Channel 4 series, 'Hugh's Chicken Run'. In the programme, Hugh investigated intensive chicken farming and was driven to quite astonishing lengths to demonstrate what he strongly believes is the cruelty involved.

Atul said, "We pride ourselves here at Benares on not only sourcing the freshest produce, but also purchasing poultry only from farms that go above and beyond the existing laws and welfare standards for rearing poultry. I will continue to do my bit and raise awareness and encourage debate about food production, animal welfare and healthy eating."

In a show of our support of the channel 4 series, we are now offering a new Big Food Fight lunch menu, which will offer a light, low calorie alternative using only free range produce.
